Are repentance and being born again sufficient, yes or no?

Study #3

Question

Am I fully saved if I repented my sins and was born again?

Answer

No, definitely not. John the Baptist, Jesus, Peter and Paul declare that the process of salvation consists of three steps:

  1. Repentance and being born again: a deliberate decision to turn away from sin and receive forgiveness.
  2. Baptism of the believer: to die of my old nature through baptism and arise in a new life with Christ.
  3. Baptism in the Holy Spirit: to receive the power of the Holy Spirit so that I can live victoriously in all circumstances.

When the first converts inquired “Brethren, what shall we do?”, Peter and other apostles replied using the following scripture:

“…Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 2:38

The following scriptures serve as confirmation:

“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes….”

Romans 1:16

“But it is from Him that you have your life in Christ Jesus, Whom God made our Wisdom from God, [revealed to us a knowledge of the divine plan of salvation previously hidden, manifesting itself as] our Righteousness [thus making us upright and putting us in right standing with God], and our Consecration [making us pure and holy], and our Redemption [providing our ransom from eternal penalty for sin].”

1 Corinthians 1:30

“And those whom He thus foreordained, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified (acquitted, made righteous, putting them into right standing with Himself). And those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity and condition or state of being].”

Romans 8:30

Conclusion

Salvation is a continuous process. I must die to my sins daily, and be filled with the Spirit continually, so that I can be more than a conqueror. This comprehensive understanding speaks of a person’s complete salvation – from being lost and without hope, to a person who is saved and lives in the perfect will of God. This process of salvation contains various elements, and each of them is essential to maintaining our salvation.

The purpose of the plan of salvation is not only to be saved from eternal hell but also to be made into a new creation, with a new heart, living in a relationship with Jesus, fully saved, in body, soul and spirit.

This Gospel, therefore, contains the message of TOTAL salvation.
