Does He need our praise and worship?

Studie #41

People need acknowledgement and acceptance. It fills a basic need for a feeling of worthiness and value. We flourish in such circumstances.

“Render to all men their dues. [Pay] taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, and honour to whom honour is due.”

Romans 13:7

“Welcome him [home] then in the Lord with all joy, and honour and highly appreciate men like him…”

Philippians 2:29

“Let the elders who perform the duties of their office well be considered doubly worthy of honour [and of adequate financial support], especially those who labour faithfully in preaching and teaching.”

1 Timothy 5:17

The Bible encourages us to give honour where honour is due. It has great value before God but must be given and received with caution so that it does not become an idol and leads us astray. The Bible teaches us to praise and worship Hím, not so?

God does not need our praise and worship! He is sovereign! He is self-reliant and independent of any external forces. Nothing a person thinks of Him or says to Him affects who He is. According to Hebrews 13:8 He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

In Genesis 17:1 God reveals Himself to Abraham as the Almighty. In 2 Corinthians 6:16 the Lord Almighty says that He will be our God that lives and dwells among us and that we will be His people.

He does not need us, but we need Him. Praise and worship is the route to His presence. Here we find life, hope and salvation –everything that gives content and meaning to our lives.

“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”

Psalm 16:11

The invitation to praise and worship is an invitation from our Father to come to Him, not because He needs us, but because we will find our lives in His glorious presence.

Conclusion

1He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. 2I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! 16With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.

Psalm 91:1-2, 16
