In His image and after His likeness – part 3

Studie #40

To live as he lives

“[Now] He is the exact likeness of the unseen God [the visible representation of the invisible]…”

Colossians 1:15

“…Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father….”

John 14:9

Jesus has shown us the unseeable God. He demonstrates how God is and what He does.

How did He live on earth?

18The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity],

19To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free favours of God abound].”

Luke 4:18-19

“Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely (without pay) you have received, freely (without charge) give.”

Matthew 10:8

  1. Jesus came to establish God’s Kingdom on earth.
  2. He brought reconciliation between God and man.

What is God’s instruction to us?

37…You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). 38This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. 39And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as [you do] yourself.”

Matthew 22:37-39

Love has never caused any damage. With our focus on Jesus we can be His hands and feet on earth. We can help establish His Kingdom and assist in reconciling man to God. We can heal the sick, raise the dead and cast out demons! We can do good to all people.

Conclusion

“I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father.”

John 14:12

What a wonderful promise! It enables us to be His image and likeness on earth.
