Stay in your lane

Study #20

Does God have a specific purpose with my life?

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you…”

Jeremiah 1:5

This very well-known scripture still applies to every person today. God does have a specific purpose for each one’s life.

“…Fear not, for I have redeemed you [ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives]; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.”

Isaiah 43:1

The Bible teaches us in 1 Corinthians 12 that we, the believers, are now the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit on earth. Together we form the body of Christ.

Paul uses the example of the human body to explain the following message: each organ and each limb has their place and function, although they are interdependent. Each supports the body to function effectively. None of the members can survive independently. Each one is also affected by the pain and suffering of the other.

“If the foot should say, Because I am not the hand, I do not belong to the body, would it be therefore not [a part] of the body?”

1 Corinthians 12:15 (Read verses 12-26 to get the complete picture)

What does it mean to me as an individual believer?

  1. Be thankful to be part of the body of Christ.
  2. Perform your specific task with dedication for the benefit of the whole body.
  3. Do not be discontent, jealous or arrogant about your task.
  4. Strive for unity and harmony while you find joy in your unique role.

There is chaos on an athletic track when the athletes run out of their lanes. It can even lead to disqualification. Therefore…
