What Is Salvation?
What Is Salvation?
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2 Cor 5:17 ESV
A New beginning, a new Creation! This is great news! But to understand the entirety of it, we should understand what these concepts really mean. Why is it important to be made new? From what must you be saved?
“for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23 ESV
When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, they fell from glory into sin, causing humanity to be separated from God. (Gen 3)
The only sacrifice able to restore our position and relationship with God, would be the crucifixion of Jesus. “For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” – 2 Cor 5:21 ESV
What does this mean?
Jesus took our sin and punishment on Himself. He died in our place, so that our position and relationship with God could be restored and we could be forgiven!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” – John 3:16 ESV
The just result of sin, is always separation from God. We were on our way to an eternal hell. However, Jesus did what was necessary, so that we could be saved.
Now you can know the Father. You are on your way to heaven and you can live in victory over sin. To know God, is to adopt His nature, and to reveal the Father’s character and love for the world.
Be saved through repentance.
Firstly, you must realize that you live a sinful life, which will lead to your distruction.
Secondly, show remorse for your sin and confess it to the Lord (1 John 1:9).
Thirdly, make the decision to turn away from your sinful life. (The word Repentance means to turn away from sin.) This leads to salvation. (2 Cor 7:10)
Repentance leads to Salvation.
Salvation means that you acknowledge that you need Jesus’ redemptive work and that you accept Him as your personal Saviour.
Pray the sinner’s prayer out loud:
“My heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I live in sin, and that I need your salvation. I ask for Your forgiveness and thank You that Jesus Christ died on the cross to free me from my sin.
I accept it joyfully and with gratitude. I turn away form my sin and choose to live in accordance with Your Word. I choose to love You.
Thank you that I am now Your child.
Amen.”
You are now a born again child of God!
A new lifestyle, reflecting your repentance, should now become your main goal.
The bible is your guideline: “My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ears to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you.” – Prov 4:20-24 ESV
Repentance should be a lifestyle. Repent as often as you become aware of sin in your life.
The road to salvation was taught by Jesus (Matt 4:17), Peter (Acts 2:38), Paul (Acts 17:30), and John the Baptist (Matt 3:2).
They taught that we should repent and be baptized with water and with the Holy Spirit.
