Always speak well of God

Study #24

Why is it important to always speak well of God?

One often hears: “Why did God allow this in my life?” or “Why did God do this to me?”

In this way, we bring God’s goodness and omnipotence under suspicion. This damages our faith in Him, and unbelief leads to bitterness and eventually, apostasy.

The prophet Malachi explains this question to us:

16Then those who feared the Lord talked often one to another; and the Lord listened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who reverenced and worshipfully feared the Lord and who thought on His name. 17And they shall be Mine, says the Lord of hosts, in that day when I publicly recognize and openly declare them to be My jewels (My special possession, My peculiar treasure). And I will spare them, as a man spares his own son who serves him. 18Then shall you return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him who serves God and him who does not serve Him.”

Malachi 3:16-18

“But unto you who revere and worshipfully fear My name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings and His beams, and you shall go forth and gambol like calves [released] from the stall and leap for joy.”

Malachi 4:2

The Lord considers it precious when we speak well of Him because it proves we subject ourselves to Him. It is proof that we trust Him and that we try to understand His father heart, even when things don’t make sense.

In 2 Chronicles 32 we read the following:

16And his servants said still more against the Lord God and against His servant Hezekiah. 17The Assyrian king also wrote letters insulting the Lord, the God of Israel, and speaking against Him… 18And they shouted it loudly in the Jewish language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten and terrify them, that they might take the city. 19And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as they spoke of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of the hands of men. 20For this cause Hezekiah the king and the prophet Isaiah son of Amos prayed and cried to heaven. 21And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria…. 22Thus the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all his enemies, and He guided them on every side. 23And many brought gifts to Jerusalem to the Lord and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah; so from then on he was magnified in the sight of all nations.”

2 Chronicles 32:16-23

“…If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?”]

Romans 8:31

Conclusion

11For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. 12Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you. 13Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Jeremiah 29:11-13

Always thank Him; pray, profess and declare the goodness of our Father, for that is who He is.
