As it is in Heaven

Matthew 6:10 Let Your Kingdom come, let Your will be done, on earth …

You may ask, “What does this scripture mean?”. Does this refer to New Jerusalem descending on earth at the end of times, or is it a reality that we can experience right now?

After Jesus was baptized, He received the Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit into the desert where He was tempted by the devil for forty days. We read about this event in Luke 4. Here we are told that Jesus did not give in to the temptations of the devil and returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit.

In Nazareth, He was handed the scroll of Isaiah to read. Unrolling it, He found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” After He had read it, He said in verse 21, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” Awesome! Jesus looked for this specific prophecy to reveal Himself, as Christ, the anointed One. Sadly they did not accept Him and drove Him out of the town. How sad that His own did not receive Him.

Jesus came to establish the Kingdom of heaven on earth!  His ministry ushered in the beginning of a whole new age. He brought heaven down to earth in everything He did and said.

The lyrics of “What a beautiful Name,” say, “You didn’t want heaven without us, so Jesus You brought heaven down.” My dear friends, Jesus came so that we can experience the Kingdom of heaven now! He told his disciples in Matthew 10:7 and 8, “Preach this message: Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” This is our mandate on earth!

In Matthew 16:19 we read, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

The word “keys” speaks of power and authority. Without His authority we will never be able to access places that have been closed to us previously. God is eager for us to take up the authority and power, that rightfully belong to us.

Here are a few keys by which we can empower ourselves to bring the Kingdom of heaven down to earth:

Repentance: Be quick to repent. John the Baptist’s message was one of repentance and water baptism, because he knew that sin would keep us from bringing heaven down to earth.

Develop a prayer life! 1 John 5:14-15 declares that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us and if we know that He hears us, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Live in His Presence. Seek His face every day. Draw close to Him. Psalm 16:11 reads, “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” The way we position ourselves and the surroundings we choose to be in, either bring us closer to God or separate us from Him. Put all distractions and sin away and draw close to God.

Study His Word. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” Hebrews 4:12 reads, “The word of God is active and alive.” In Isaiah 55:11 God declares: “My word goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to me void (useless, without effect), but is shall accomplish that which I please and purpose and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Start speaking the Word. Take up your authority in the name of Jesus and start declaring His Word over any situation boldly. The Word in your mouth is just as effective as the Word in His mouth.  Use this effective key to pray heaven down to earth.

Grow in Faith. Realize that nothing is impossible with God! Mark 11:24 says, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.”

Walk in boldness. Luke 10:19-20 reads, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”

We are God’s hands and feet on earth. We must echo his voice to a lost world and bring heaven to earth.

Prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, use me and give me wisdom to do just what You say and do.  Amen.
