It was a Friday afternoon, about one hour before the school bell was to announce the beginning of the weekend.
I was not feeling well and lay down on the little bed in the sick bay, when a young woman came into the room. I turned on my side and faced the wall, to avoid a conversation. She searched through the clothing in the lost and found pile without saying a word, and on finding what she was looking for, she quietly left me alone.
My ex-husband had just left me, my teaching contract was to expire soon and I had three children to take care of.
After assembly on the following Monday morning, a grade 2 learner came up to the stage where I was packing up the sound equipment and other odds and ends and handed me a gift.
Not knowing the child at all, I was curious to open the gift and find out from who it was.
Back in my classroom, I sat down and opened the parcel carefully. In it were two cassette tapes with gospel music and a letter folded up neatly. No name to indicate who the sender was.
“You don’t know me, but when I saw you lying in the sick bay on Friday, the Lord spoke to me and told me to send you this message.” Written in her handwriting were two pages of scriptures.
The first one read:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
My hands started to tremble and the paper shook like a leaf in my hand. “Was God really speaking to me? Nothing like this had ever happened to me before.”
I read the next scripture: Hebrew 13:5: “Let your character be free from love of money and be satisfied with your present circumstances; for He Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. I WILL NOT, I WILL NOT, I WILL NOT in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake, nor let you down or relax my hold on you. Assuredly not!”
I knew that God WAS speaking to me. A sense of satisfaction and security swept over me and I knew without a doubt that He would take care of our every need.
It is now 22 years on and He is still my provider, my healer and my closest friend!
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you that Your Word is true and that You do what You say. AMEN
