GOD’S POSITIONING SYSTEM GPS
Exodus 14:8-16
Have you ever experienced getting totally lost following your GPS, your Global Positioning System? That can be so frustrating, especially when you are in a hurry, or you are looking for a destination that you have never visited before. There are so many reasons for this, but human error and ignorance seem to be the most common ones.
During the Exodus, when the Israelites left Egypt for the Promised Land, God led them by way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea and not by way of the land of the Philistines, although it was nearer, because He said: “Lest the people change their purpose when they see war and return to Egypt.”
You see, God never promised them a comfortable or an easy journey. He never gives the details of the journey, but He promised that He would never leave them, and that He would bring them into the Promised Land.
Hovering above them, the Lord went before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. This pillar never departed from them. And yet, when the Egyptians pursued them, they said to Moses: “Why have you treated us this way and brought us out of Egypt? Did we not tell you in Egypt, let us alone, let us serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
Moses’ response was: (v13-14) “Fear not. Stand firm, confident, undismayed and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.” What a contrast! All of them had the same “GPS.” All of them saw the pillar of cloud during the day and the pillar of fire during the night. All of them were fully aware of God’s presence. So, what made the difference?
Moses trusted God’s guidance and direction! He knew that they needed Him. In Exodus 33:15 Moses said to the Lord: “If Your Presence does not go with me, do not carry us up from here.” He had learned to trust God. Micah 6:8 reads, “What does the Lord require of you but to do justly and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God?” He will never fail you.
Psalm 23:1 reads, “The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want.”
May I encourage you to make a quality decision to submit your whole life to Jesus. Make Him your GPS in everything you do. Make sure that you do not move without Him leading you. Make sure that you humble yourself and walk humbly with your Master. Learn to trust him and to rely on Him. Keep your eyes fixed and focused on Him.
Proverbs 19:21 reads, “A person may have many ideas concerning God’s plan for his life, but only the designs of his purpose will succeed in the end.”
Prayer:
Dear Father, I submit my whole live to You. Help me to walk humbly with you all the days of my life. Amen.
