Gold for my King

Throughout Scripture, pure gold speaks of divinity that cannot be reproduced by man. It speaks of the deity of Jesus Christ and typifies the divine glory of Jesus as “The Son of God.” Jesus is God, Yahweh, in the flesh. He is Yahweh, the LORD, the King.

God told Moses to make Him a sanctuary, an Ark, that He might dwell with His people. In Exodus 25 we read that the Ark had to be make of acacia wood and overlaid with pure gold, inside and out. The Ten Commandments had to be put inside, and on top of the Ark, a mercy seat of pure gold had to be placed, with two cherubim on the two ends of it. There God would meet with Moses a speak intimately with him. The Ark symbolised God’s presence with His people.

In the book of Samuel the story is told of the Philistines who stole the Ark, because they saw how blessed the Israelites were with the Ark in their midst. But the Lord caused deadly tumors and plagues to come upon them because of the Ark. They then sent the Ark to other Philistine
cities, but the hand of the Lord was still against them. Eventually they sent the Ark back to Israel. It was taken to Beth-Shemesh on a cart. When the Israelites saw it, they rejoiced greatly. The Ark was a blessing to God’s people, but a curse to the Philistines. Today we could say that our sinfulness keeps us away from God. If we live a life lacking respect and honour for God, we cannot expect Him to bless us. We need to humble ourselves before God and live a holy life in obedience and love towards Him. He so desperately wants to bless us!

In Matthew 2:11 we read that the Wise Men brought Jesus Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. They must have been acquainted with the use and significance when choosing these gifts. These gifts point to the fact that the Wise Men acknowledged Him as Saviour, King and Great High Priest. As we continue to explore the symbolic meaning and the uses of these gifts, you may be amazed to learn the depths of God’s Word and how it relates to us today.

In Revelation 21 we read about the Holy City of Jerusalem coming down from God in heaven. Verse 18: “The wall was built of jasper and the city was made of pure gold, clear as crystal.”
Verse 21: “The streets of the city were made of pure gold, clear as crystal.”

Gold became the symbol of God & divinity and His Presence and Glory. It reflects His Holiness,

Kingship, Majesty and Righteousness. Gold runs like a thread though out Scripture, reflecting God’s character and teaching us how to how to draw close to Him.

The expression, “go for gold,” means to give your very best. Let us live a life of Gold for our King.

Prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus. I bow down to You and worship You as my King and my Redeemer. Teach me how to live a life of holiness, respect and obedience to You. Amen.
