Live from each word that comes from the mouth of God

Study #25

How does one live from each word that comes from the mouth of God?

There are many examples in the Bible where God spoke in various ways to the people. Think about Joseph and Maria and the virgin birth of Jesus. Also, the time when Joseph was warned in a dream to flee to Egypt.

We often read in the Bible about the Word of God that came to so and so. Similarly, the Holy Spirit can see to it that the Word of God comes to us. This usually happens in one of the following ways:

  1. through a verse in the Bible that speaks to us
  2. through spirit-filled people who speak into our lives
  3. through dreams
  4. through spontaneous thought, etc.

Nothing and nobody – no hostile power – can stand against His Word. The Word of God stands firm, will never change, and is available to everyone searching for it. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

What is my responsibility?

Tom Ingles tells of a man to whom God said that he could ask God anything and he would receive it. The man thought for a long time and then said: “I want every promise in the Word of God”. God’s reaction was: “If it is in the Word, it is yours”.

God, therefore, puts the responsibility on our shoulders!

  1. Read the Word.
  2. Believe the Word.
  3. Act according to the Word.
  4. Profess, speak and declare the Word.
  5. Ask God that He will speak to you through his Spirit.
  6. Tune in to the Spirit.

In 1 Kings 17 we read that Elijah announced a drought. We read that the Word of God came to him and commanded him to go to the brook Cherith where God would take care of him. But alas! The brook dried up. The Word of God came to Him again and gave him the next order – this time to go to Zarephath where a widow would take care of him. In this way, God led him step by step so that He could provide for him and touch other people’s lives. What an exciting life!
