Loss and disappointment

Study #16

What happens when I experience loss or disappointment?

Life happens to each of us at some time or another. It can be different things, such as the death of a loved one, divorce, serious illness, loss of an income, and many other disappointments or traumatic events that bring our lives to a standstill.

When these things hit us, we invariably ask: “Why did it happen to me?”. Getting an answer to our question will still not satisfactorily answer the inexplicability of the event, nor will it provide a solution.

“As you know not what is the way of the wind, or how the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a pregnant woman, even so you know not the work of God, Who does all.”

Ecclesiastes 11:5

To move on, we must give up the right to understand.

Believers define God according to the Word – that He is faithful, that He loves us, and that He will always make a way for us in the desert. That is what we must cling to while we praise and worship Him.

People who backslide in their walk with God, define Him according to what He did not do. They feel angry toward God and question His love for them. They easily fall into a downward spiral of emotions, questions, and blame, and it is difficult for them to get out of it. They take offence against God and are thereby blinded to the truth of His Word.

The word “offence” comes from the Greek word “skandelon” which means snare or trap. This is satan’s age-old tactic to get us to turn against God.

23A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers. .24God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).”

John 4:23-24

Conclusion

Let us worship Him for who He is, irrespective of the circumstances we face. He is the loving father that is the same, forever and ever. He is always good.
