Reward
Study #21
Can we, as believers, already expect a reward while we are on earth?
“But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].”
Hebrews 11:6
God is the rewarder. The word “rewarder” is found only once in the New Testament, and the word means that He is an exceeding rewarder.
Is the reward only spiritual?
No, it applies to every aspect of our lives on earth. In 1 Samuel 17, we read how David arrived at the battleground where Goliath belittles the Israelites, challenges them, and insults God. The Israelites were very afraid of this Philistine and fled from him.
King Saul offered a comprehensive reward for the man who could defeat Goliath. David heard from three different people what this reward would be.
The reward
- He gets the king’s daughter as his wife.
- The king will exempt him and his family from all taxes.
- He would receive a lot of wealth.
This reward changed David’s life. As the king’s son-in-law, he would, except for the king, enjoy the most prestige in the land. To be exempted from taxes would be a huge benefit, and together with that, he would receive a lot of wealth. His whole family was blessed through him.
Conclusion
Similarly, God blesses our lives. Our Father wants to bless us.
“The blessing of the Lord–it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it].”
Proverbs 10:22
“Let those who favour my righteous cause and have pleasure in my uprightness shout for joy and be glad and say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, Who takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.”
Psalm 35:27
