The challenge of change

Study #14

We live in a world of constant change. The geographic world changes, the economy changes, the politics change, our work circumstances might change, and even our personal lives and relationships are subject to change.

The extent to which we experience success during times of change is closely associated with our attitude toward change: am I open to it, or does change cause me to be anxious?

37And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the fresh wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled and the skins will be ruined (destroyed). 38But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins.”

Luke 5:37-38

This verse encourages us to have a new, fresh attitude towards change. If we embrace change, we can enthusiastically walk on the new road on which God wants to take us.

39And no one after drinking old wine immediately desires new wine, for he says, The old is good or better.”

Luke 5:39

One cleaves onto one’s comfort zone rather than embracing change. The Israelites wanted to return to Egypt time and time again when they faced obstacles on their way to the Promised Land, even though God promised them good things. Embrace and welcome the changes you meet along the way because your Shepherd is leading the way!

You can’t reach new heights if your heart is unwilling to leave the old things behind and ready to meet the new.

13… one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”

Philippians 3:13-14

Conclusion

“So let those [of us] who are spiritually mature and full-grown have this mind and hold these convictions; and if in any respect you have a different attitude of mind, God will make that clear to you also.”

Philippians 3:15

Change and renewal are part of God’s plan for our lives. Thank Him for that!
