“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
In Matthew 13: 45-46 we read, “The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.”
The wise men did not only bring gold as a gift for Baby Jesus, they also brought frankincense and myrrh. Each one of these gifts was extremely valuable and were highly significant in its symbolism, its relationship to the different titles of Jesus and to ancient temple worship.
The Ten Commandments had to be put inside, and on top of the Ark, a mercy seat of pure gold had to be placed, with two cherubim on the two ends of it.There God would meet with Moses a speak intimately with him. The Ark symbolised God &presence with His people.
On the bottom of the blue robe were bells alternating with pomegranate tassels. As the High Priest moved around, the bells would ring, reminding the people that they were in the presence of the High Priest, who represented the Lord. The pomegranates, fruit with hundreds of seeds, represented fruitfulness and prosperity.
In Scripture it is revealed that using myrrh as a bridal tradition was a custom in those days. In Esther 2:12 the Bible describes the preparation Esther had to undergo before she became queen. This involved six months of beauty treatments with oil of myrrh, a spice commonly used for preparing a body for burial.
Myrrh is a resin from trees that grow in the Arabian Peninsula. It is known for its healing properties and was often combined with other spices to create healing balms.
“The Lord…”; Say it a few times and let the meaning of who the Lord is sink into your heart. “The Lord,” who is He? The creator of heaven and earth. He is my Lord.
